A little of this, a little of that, a dollop of magick, and voila, a blend is born.
Herbal blends are a lovely tool for magick and intention. They can be simple, or complex. Two herbs or twenty, with or without essential oils, ground crystals or any other esoteric ingredients. The choice is up to the maker, and every blend is easy to tailor to fit specific needs.
Personally, I think they’re great to use in so many ways. A few ideas are:
- As incense burned on a charcoal disk
- In poppets or charms
- As an offering during spellwork
- In spell jars
- To charge crystals for a specific energy
- As a tea (if made with food-safe ingredients)
- In a bath or as a shower bundle
Herbal blends can be made anew for each occasion, but over the years I’ve discovered that using familiar Herbal Blends over and over carries more power.
Creating Powerful Herbal Blends
When I create a blend, I use specific lunar and solar timing, empower and energize each ingredient by it’s specific correspondence and work an intention spell into the blend, whether I’m using it for one working or for multiple. But the advantage of using the same blend for multiple workings is that each time, it imbues that blend with more energy. It carries the success and power of the previous workings onto the next. It forms a strong bond between the blend, the goal and the witch.
For example, using witchy herbs such as rosemary, lavender, and mugwort in a protection blend can enhance its effectiveness with each use. Similarly, blending basil, cinnamon, and ginger in a prosperity mix can amplify your financial intentions, especially when stored in a dedicated spell jar.
Storing and Enhancing Your Herbal Blends
I sell my blends in both compostable pouches and artistically crafted jars, but I also love storing blends in handcrafted apothecary jars chosen for their own specific magickal energies. For instance, I store Her Enchanted Creations Full Moon Herbal Blend in a Full Moon Goddess Apothecary Jar, the Dark Moon blend in the Dark Moon Goddess Apothecary Jar, and my Fertile Abundance blend in the Earth Goddess Apothecary Jar.
Often, I’ll place a crystal in the jar along with the herbs. For example, I keep a piece of malachite crystal with my Prosperity & Wealth Herbal Blend to enhance its energy, bringing in joy, divine vibrations, and the attraction of what I desire. This practice of combining magick herbal blends with crystals and specific containers adds layers of intention and power to the herbal blend.
