Yule Ornaments can be made of so many things, but one way I love to bring that delicious scent of cinnamon to my celebrations is that childhood craft of making shapes with applesauce dough.
Cinnamon Yule Ornaments
Decorate with the delicious scent of cinnamon, bringing the spicy energy of prosperity and protection to your Yule season.
- 3/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
- 2 jars (2.37 oz) Ground Cinnamon
Preheat oven to 200°F
Mix applesauce and cinnamon in bowl until a smooth ball of dough is formed. Don’t be afraid to use your hands to incorporate all of the cinnamon.
Using about 1/4 of the dough at a time, roll dough to 1/4-inch to 1/3-inch thickness between two sheets of plastic wrap. Cover rest of dough with plastic wrap to prevent it drying out while you work with each segment.
Peel off top sheet of plastic wrap. Cut dough into desired shapes with 2- to 3-inch cookie cutters. Make a hole at top of ornament with skewer. Place ornaments on baking sheet.
Bake 2 1/2 hours. Cool ornaments on wire rack.
Insert ribbon through holes and tie to hang.
*Optional- If desired, you can paint the ornaments before stringing ribbon.
To continue the powerful energy of cinnamon, I also create cinnamon stick bundles to hang for the tree. Simply wrap a few sticks together with ribbon, tie a bow and decorate.
