In this guide, you’ll learn how to care for copper naturally using gentle, eco-conscious methods that preserve the beauty, patina, and magickal energy of your handcrafted creations — from shimmering suncatchers and pendulums to glowing candleholders and plant décor.
Caring for Copper with Intention: A Natural Guide to Keeping Your Creations Beautiful
Copper has long been revered for its ability to conduct both energy and intention, making it a beautiful ally in spiritual spaces. It connects the physical and the spiritual, grounding energy while helping it flow freely through your environment. As a living metal — warm, radiant, and ever-changing — copper naturally develops a soft patina that tells the story of its journey with you.
Everyday Copper Care: Gentle and Eco-Conscious
Treat the act of polishing as a mindful ritual—an opportunity to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with your intention as you care for your tools and décor.
For most copper pieces, regular cleaning is simple — and doesn’t require harsh chemicals.
The key is to work with the metal’s natural nature rather than against it.
The best all-around method:
- Use a soft microfiber cloth.
This is safe for every Her Enchanted Creations piece. Gently buff the surface to remove dust, fingerprints, and light oxidation. The warmth from your hands and the texture of the cloth restore the copper’s glow without stripping patina or disturbing crystals.
You can use this same technique on polished, patinated, or crystal-accented copper — it’s effective, chemical-free, and safe for both your home and the environment.
When a Deeper Clean is Needed (Raw Copper Only)
If you ever need to brighten untreated or raw copper — such as untreated copper accents, raw wire designs, or any unsealed metal components occasionally used in my pieces — natural cleaners like lemon and salt, vinegar, or baking soda and lemon juice can lift oxidation beautifully.
However, these methods aren’t recommended for use on patinated or crystal-accented pieces, as they can remove the dark finish and damage delicate stones.
Why Her Enchanted Creations Require Special Care
Here’s how to care for each type of copper creation in your collection.
Each piece’s patina evolves with time, gently shifting in tone as it absorbs the energy of your home and your own touch. This transformation mirrors the way we grow in our practice—deepening, softening, and becoming more layered with experience.
Many of my pieces feature a hand-applied patina — a deliberate aging process that enhances detail and gives depth to the copper’s tone. This finish is meant to remain, not be polished away.
Likewise, many of the crystals woven into my designs are natural and untreated, and several (including quartz, amethyst, and calcite) can dull or pit if exposed to acidic or harsh substances.
For this reason, the care your piece receives should be as mindful as its creation: gentle, minimal, and natural.
Caring for Each Type of Creation
Tip: Place your suncatchers where they can safely catch natural light without being exposed to direct heat sources or extreme temperature changes. This ensures lasting brilliance and prevents stress on the crystals or wire.
These pieces are designed to sparkle in the light, not to be scrubbed or sprayed.
- Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfiber cloth or gentle brush (such as a makeup or artist’s brush).
- Gently buff the copper with your cloth when you’d like a brighter glow.
- Avoid water, vinegar, or any sprays, which can dull the wire or harm the crystal surface.
- Optional natural touch: A tiny drop of lemon or jojoba oil on your cloth can add a soft sheen without residue.
Suggestion: Store your pendulums in a soft pouch or wrap them in an altar cloth when not in use to prevent scratches and help preserve their energy.
Your pendulum’s patina and crystal are both sensitive — treat them as sacred tools.
- Wipe gently with a dry microfiber cloth, soft brush, or patina-safe jewelry polishing cloth.
- Do not use vinegar, lemon juice, or soap — these strip the patina and weaken wire wraps.
- Shine naturally by warming a drop of lemon or jojoba oil between your fingers and rubbing lightly over exposed copper areas (avoiding the crystal).
- Energetic cleansing: Use smoke, sound, or moonlight to refresh its energy instead of physical cleaning.
These pieces often feature crystals or handcrafted clay charms and may collect candle wax over time.
- Remove wax carefully. Allow the wax to fully cool, then gently lift or flake it away using your fingernail or a wooden tool — avoid scraping with metal. For an easy, natural removal, place your candleholder in the freezer for about 15 minutes; the cooled wax will contract slightly and pop off cleanly without chemicals or scraping. Once the wax is gone, allow the holder to return to room temperature before buffing.
- Buff with a microfiber cloth to remove any residue or fingerprints.
- Avoid soaking or using hot water, as moisture can loosen crystal settings or affect clay accents.
- If needed, use a soft cloth lightly dampened with warm water to remove remaining wax traces, then dry completely.
- Add gentle shine with a drop of lemon or jojoba oil on your cloth, buffing lightly.
Plant Decor (Trellises, Stakes, and Charms)
Caution: Avoid spraying chemical fertilizers, leaf cleaners, or pesticide solutions directly on copper pieces to protect both the finish and any attached crystals.
These pieces live with your plants, so they’re exposed to soil, water, and sunlight — and they’ll naturally develop a deeper patina over time.
- Wipe occasionally with a soft microfiber cloth to remove soil or mineral spots.
- If dampened, dry completely. For pieces that live in soil, gently wipe and dry only the above-soil portion when possible. The stem section that rests in the dirt will naturally age and may darken without harm. Don’t leave wet soil clinging to the exposed copper for long periods.
- Do not use acids or cleaners. They can leach into the soil and harm both plants and crystals.
- For a natural shine, gently buff with your microfiber cloth and, if desired, a drop of lemon or jojoba oil.
- Expect aging. Outdoor and plant pieces will continue to darken; this is part of their magickal character.

Energetic Cleansing and Reconnection
Each copper creation carries its own energy, and keeping that energy clear is as important as physical care. Every Her Enchanted Creations piece is smoke cleansed before shipping, preparing it to harmonize with your space and energy.
As you cleanse, affirm your connection to the energy of light and renewal, turning this simple act into a moment of mindful magick.
When you cleanse or polish your piece, connect with its purpose and element:
– as you polish a pendulum, focus on its role as an intuitive bridge between your higher self and divine guidance.
– when you clean a candleholder, connect with the flame’s elemental energy—fire for transformation and light.
– for your suncatchers or plant décor, imagine renewing the light and life energy they bring into your space.
Each act of care becomes a quiet ritual of alignment and gratitude.
To refresh and reconnect with your piece:
- Pass it gently through the smoke of incense or herbs such as rosemary, cedar, or lavender.
- Rest it beside selenite, clear quartz, or under the light of the moon to recharge.
- Use sound cleansing — a bell, chime, or singing bowl — to disperse stagnant energy.
These practices help your piece stay energetically vibrant and attuned to your magickal space.
